Imprint Creating the Right Impression in Selby

November 17, 2009 - posted in Decorative Surfacing, Prismo Contracting Services, Prismo Team

Whilst, nationally, our high streets have weathered the economic storm over the past 12 months, some well-known high street names have faded from view. You could, therefore, be forgiven for thinking that the local high street may be on the verge of disappearing too.

But not so in Selby, where North Yorkshire County Council has agreed to lay Prismo Imprint on the A63 Gowthorpe, which is the main high street running through the town centre linking Leeds on the east of the river and Hull on the west.

Imprint was chosen, as part of the Council maintenance programme, to impart the right impression and to improve the surface of Gowthorpe, thus providing an enhanced visible presence for parking bays outside local shops and at bus stops.

Prismo Road Marking’s contracting teams laid light grey Imprint in cobblestone finish, creating nearly 350m2 of hardstanding area. This installation period is less than half the time of more traditional block-paving techniques and the new surfacing was opened to traffic and pedestrians in under an hour.

Project Manager Derek Johnson, of main contractor Jacobs (acting on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council) commented “I’ve used Imprint before in North Yorkshire region and I know that it is capable of standing up to some heavy traffic and abuse. On this project we needed a product that would meet the aesthetic requirements, whilst at the same time presenting value for money all round. Imprint was the right choice.”

North Yorkshire County Council maintenance teams will further benefit from the installation of Imprint due to its weed resistance and low maintenance requirements. The product is extremely durable and will remain aesthetically pleasing for life.
With the help of Imprint, the look of the local high streets has improved dramatically…

Open Day Opens Eyes!

Prismo’s now established annual Open Day took place at the beginning of June at Prismo Traffic Products premises in Midsomer Norton, near Bath.

The event proved a great success and even the sun shone on the many invited guests, who included personnel from local authorities, contractors and builders merchants.
Among the products demonstrated were „Coloursafe anti-slip surface coating, REphalt permanent pothole repair, Flexiline preformed thermoplastic, Stonegrip decorative surfacing, Ecodyn mobile road marking assessment system, Bee Bump sleeping policemen and LineLazer airless line marking machines.

A great deal of interest was generated in the Prismo Traffic Products range, particularly in the “hands on” demonstrations.

A spokesman for Prismo commented “The open day allows various products to be physically demonstrated and for guests to witness, first hand, how they are applied and what the material looks like after installation. Given the reaction of the guests, we’re already making arrangements for next year’s event. The LineLazer machine used for the demonstration was bought right there, on the day!”

Magic at Trafflex 2009

In a month when the predicted cuts on public spending were announced in the Chancellor’s budget, Prismo Road Markings Ltd exhibited at the NEC Birmingham on what turned out to be a very busy ‘Traffex’ show and one that appeared to be bucking the economic trend.

At the show, which ran from Tuesday 21st April until Thursday 23rd April, there was little sign that visitors were taking any notice of the current financial climate, arriving at the show in good numbers and showing positive interest in the products being displayed.

Many visitors headed straight for the Prismo stand, strategically positioned opposite the ‘Traffex’ café, spurred on by the word getting round that ‘magic’ was being conjured up on stand F80. They were lured by a magician who wowed the crowds with tricks, whilst at the same time, of course, introducing the products manufactured by the road safety markings company.

Prismo manufactures products that provide their own ‘safety’ magic too. Prismo’s Colourbright system is a good example. During the day, the patented safety solution acts as a coloured delineation and alerts drivers to potential road hazards. The real ‘trick’, however, occurs at night, when the vehicle’s headlights are reflected back from the Colourbright surface and the road surface lights up as a warning to the approaching driver.

Judging by the number of visitors to the Prismo stand over the three-day Traffex event, the magician proved a real success with many visitors directly commenting about the Prismo stand being much busier than its neighbours. Proof positive then that Prismo has the products, solutions and services that remain in demand to meet today’s road infrastructure issues. And that’s no illusion!

Royalty Visits Prismo

It’s not an every-day occurrence for a King, members of a royal family and accompanying officials, to visit your business operation to discover how you may assist in their country’s development. But this is exactly what happened recently at the UK’s pre-eminent road safety markings product manufacturer, Prismo Ltd.

His Majesty Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, King of Akyem Abuakwa, Ghana, who was in the UK primarily to hold discussions on environmental matters, visited Prismo’s Chorley facility to overview how the company’s products and services could help in improving road safety in Ghana.

Prismo Directors explained how innovative technology, quality control and a skilled and experienced workforce have made Prismo the leading specialist in road and airfield markings, traffic safety products, anti-skid, coloured and decorative surfacing, bridge expansion joints, jointing, sealing and crack repair systems. Various systems were described with particular emphasis on those relevant to the climatic conditions experienced in Ghana.

Following the visit His Majesty commented, “I am extremely impressed with the Prismo operation, the enthusiasm of the company’s staff, their environmental awareness and the road safety products manufactured, which deliver benefits globally and particularly on our roads in Ghana. In Ghana, we simply must not accept the number of killed and seriously injured people on our roads. We are mindful that the problem goes way beyond the immediate casualties, because often many family members depend totally on others to support their very basic needs”.

“In Ghana the National Road Safety Commission has been established and mandated to play the lead role in championing, promoting and co-ordinating road safety polices and activities. Ideally, I would like to see the current number of road fatalities reduced to nil and in this, my 10th anniversary year, I am encouraging authorities to give high profile to road safety, along with environmental issues, to compliment the government’s endeavours to improve the lives of all the people in Ghana. Motivated by what I have learned, I will charge my private secretary Mr Edmond Boateng to work with the Ministry of Transport and the National Road Safety Commission and other stake holders, to progress this important objective”.

“I thank Prismo for an interesting insight to potential road safety solutions and hope to see them in action in Ghana soon”.
