Introduction to Multiseal 40
Multiseal 40 – Hot applied joint sealant based on polymer modified bitumen technology. High performance sealant with a wide operating temperature range. Suitable for construction joints in asphalt and concrete. No primer required. Fully complies with latest European Standard for Joint Sealants EN14188.
Solution
Multiseal 40 is a high performance hot-applied rubberised bituminous product used to seal and fill cracks and joints in both asphalt and concrete in cold climates. The material exhibits improved flexibility at low temperatures, while resisting flow during the summer.
When melted Multiseal 40 forms a highly adhesive compound, which alleviates the requirement for a primer under all normal circumstances.
Complies with European Standard EN14188 for Hot Pour Sealants
Multiseal 40 is ideal for sealing of horizontal construction, filling pavement cracks in concrete and asphalt roads, runways and throughfares.
Properties
- Performs over a wide road temperature range from –40°C to +65°C
- Good flexibility at low temperatures.
- Improved flow resistance.
- Superior recovery properties.
- Seals joints and cracks preventing entry of water and foreign bodies.
- No primer necessary.
Applications
Preparation of Joints and Cracks
Joints and cracks should be thoroughly cleaned and dried using a hot compressed air lance, or by grit blasting or power brushing, to ensure removal of all detritus and, where applicable, moribund sealant. Any necessary repairs to badly spalled concrete should be undertaken. Caulking should be inserted into the joint gap prior to installation of sealant.
Application of Multiseal 40
Multiseal 40 compound shall be heated and agitated in a purpose-built sealant preheater unit, ensuring that temperature does not exceed 200°C. The compound shall be applied to pavement cracks and joints using either pressure feed melter applicators or bucket and ‘V’ mould, with a minimum loss of temperature. Joints shall be sealed to a level of approximately 3mm below the surface.
